Running Modgician on Apple Mac

Home Support Articles Running Modgician on Apple Mac

There have been quite a few reported incidents of Apple Mac users not being able to launch the Modgician application. If you are having this problem, please follow the instructions on this page regarding Java before contacting us.

Modgician has been designed to run on any computer that has Java 7 installed. If you’re using a Mac and Modgician isn’t opening properly for you, then these instructions should help you get it running properly.

Requirements for running Modgician on Apple Mac computers

  • OS X 10.7.3 (Lion) or later
  • Java 7 Update 45 or later

Checking your OS X version

To check your version of OS X, click on the Apple icon in the top left corner of your screen, then click on “About This Mac”

It needs to be at least 10.7.3 for Modgician to work.

Checking your Java version

To check your version of Java, click on the Apple icon in the top left corner of your screen, then click “System Preferences…”

Look for the Java icon which should be in the section called “Other”. If you can’t see it then you most likely don’t have the Java Runtime Environment installed. If it is there, click on it. This will launch the Java control panel which normally takes a few moments to open. Once it opens, click on the “About” button.

The version number should be “Version 7 Update 45” or later

Installing / Updating to the latest Java

Click this link to take you to the Java download page: https://www.java.com/en/download/mac_download.jsp

Follow the prompts to download and install the latest Java. Once finished, please double check your version of Java as per the above instructions to ensure that it is installed correctly.

Launching Modgician

On some Apple Mac systems, double-clicking on a .jar (Java) file will open it with an archiving program and show you the contents of the file. If this happens to you, instead of double-clicking, hold down the Contrl key then click once on the Modgician.jar file, then from the pop-up menu that opens choose Open With, then choose “Jar Launcher”

Provided Java is installed correctly, Modgician should open in a few seconds and present you with the login screen.

Still not working?
