2 final steps to ensure a smooth modding experience

1. Check your browsers download settings

Most of the Mod developers make their Mod available as a compressed file, meaning they will have a .zip or .jar file extension. Some browsers have a default setting to automatically uncompress the download file, rendering it uselss for Minecraft. Check below for specific instructions related to the browser you use to check your browser is not set to automatically uncompress the download files.

Chrome currently does not have a setting to automatically uncompress compressed files, so if you use Chrome you do not have to worry about this.

  • Open Firefox
  • For Windows…
    • Click on the Tools’ drop-down menu
    • Click on ‘Options
  • For Mac…
    • Click on the ‘Firefox’ drop-down menu
    • Click on ‘Preferences…’
  • Click on the ‘Applications’ tab
  • Scroll down and look for ‘ZIP archive’ and set the Action to “Always ask”
(if ZIP archive doesn’t exists, then you will need to download one mod first then ZIP archive will appear in this list)
  • Close the ‘Options (Windows)/Preferences (Mac)’ box
  • Restart Firefox

Internet Explorer currently does not have a setting to turn off automatically uncompress compressed files, so if you use Internet Explorer you shouldn’t not have to worry about this. However, if you do have trouble importing Mods into Modgician, let us know straight away and we’ll help you to get it working properly.

  • Open Safari
  • For Windows…
    • Click on the ‘Tools’ drop-down menu
    • Click on ‘Options’
  • For Mac…
    • Click on the ‘Safari’ drop-down menu
    • Click on ‘Preferences…’
  • Click on the ‘General’ tab
  • Un-tick ‘Open “safe” files after downloading’
  • Close the ‘Options (Windows)/Preferences (Mac)’ box
  • Restart Safari

2. Be careful of the ads!

You will be downloading Mods from the Mod developers original download links. We do this to help support them financially as they make money off of the ads displayed on their download page (please note that Modgician does NOT make any money from these ads).

The majority of the download links will take you to an ‘adf.ly’ (pronounced “ad-fly”) page which will have ads on it for all sorts of products. In the top right of the window there will be a countdown that counts from 5 to 1, then changes to a button that says “Skip Ad” – this is what you will need to click on to download the Mod.

Here is an example of what it will look like…

That’s it … go to the Modgician Download page, download the mod installer and start modding!

If you have any trouble at all, please use the Support tab in Modgician or the Support Page on the website.
