Old Minecraft Launcher

  • Minecraft 1.2.5

Some versions of Minecraft, like 1.3.1 and the first few 1.4.x versions were not out for long before they were superseeded by an improved version. Because of this Mod developers don’t always release a stable version of their Mod for that version of Minecraft. So we stick to the ones that work and that the majority of Mod developers release versions for.

Modgician is available for the Java Edition of Minecraft ONLY and will run on the majority of desktop computers and laptops including:

Microsoft Windows

XP, Vista, 7, 8, 10 (32 or 64 bit)

Apple Mac

10.7.3 or later
(does not work on iPhone or iPad)

Linux

as long as it runs Java 7 or later

Some people have asked us why there are ads on the download links even though they have purchased Modgician.

We don’t actually make any money at all off of the ads …

The majority of mod developers ask that nobody else host their mod for download, mainly so that they can keep control over version releases (current and old).

Mojang (the creators of Minecraft) do not allow the Mod developers to charge money for their mods, as they are actually re-distributing modified forms of the Minecraft code.

So, the majority of mod developers put their downloads behind adf.ly links as a small source of revenue to try to get something back for their work in creating the mod. We merely host the links that they put up (not all go to adf.ly pages) so they don’t lose out when people install their mod through Modgician.

Having said that, we are building (one step at a time) a system which will give much more revenue to the mod developing community based on the number of installs of each mod through Modgician. But this requires more development as well as negotiation with the Mod developers.

However, once that is in place, then it will be a 1 click install (rather than download, import & install), to install mods through Modgician and you won’t see any ads.

  1. Launch Modgician Application and Login
  2. Select the version of minecraft you want to Mod
  3. Click the links for the Mods you want to download and install
  4. Select the tick box next to the Mods you want, then click Install

We fully test the installation of every version of every Mod before making it available in Modgician. This means that if you see it in the list, you can confidently install it into your copy of Minecraft.

Standalone vs Client/Server

Other Mod installers
Most of the Minecraft Mod installers available are a standalone program. That is, they are designed with a set of rules and then handed over to you to operate.

The problem with this model is that the world of Minecraft Mods is a fast evolving beast, with things changing constantly. To keep those programs up to date and always working means they would need to constantly release new versions of their software to ensure the Mod installations always work for you.

Modgician
Modgician is built on a client/server model. That is, the Modgician client application that runs on your computer connects to our central database for the latest, up to date information on how each and every Mod needs to be installed. This allows us to fully test the installation of every single Mod that is listed in Modgician, then update the server which is then instantly available to the client application on your computer. Because of this you can always install Mods with confidence and ease.

Free vs Paid

Minecrafters worldwide have built an amazing community of developers who freely contribute their work. This also includes developers who have released Mod installers in an attempt to make things easier.

However, because there are so many Mods and a massive number of dependencies, conflictions and variations of how Mods need to be installed, it takes a lot of time to keep on top of it all.

For a developer to fully support a free Mod installer, they wouldn’t have time to work, sleep or eat. As is the case with many of the free Mod installers, there are large amounts of problems and questions that people have posted which do not get a response.

Modgician works on a paid model for the simple reason that if you want easy, fast and reliable Mod installation softtware, someone needs to be on the other end ensuring it happens all the time.

Because we test the installation of every Mod available through Modgician, we are aware of any conflictions a Mod may have with other Mods. The confliction is then flagged in the system so that you get prompted with a warning if you try to install two Mods that conflict with each other.

As a general rule, Mod developers will indicate if their Mod relies on any other Mods to work. In this case, the system is set to automatically install any dependencies so that you never have to worry or even think about it. Just choose the Mods you want to play with and leave any worrying about dependencies to us.

No. The reason for this is because Modgician is designed to elimianate potential problems with installing Mods. We examine every Mod before we list it, including full testing of the installation. The end result is that you can be confident that every Mod listed in Modgician will install properly into your copy of Minecraft.

If there is a Mod you would like added, please use the Mod Suggestion form on the Members Home page and we’ll add it in for you.

Not yet. Installing texture packs is on the list of future improvements.

There may be a problem with your account status. Login to the Modgician website, go to the Modgician Members Area and check to ensure that the status of your account is “Premium”. If it says basic, then this is the reason you aren’t seeing any Mods. If you have purchased a premium account, please double check that your PayPal account has been charged, then go to the Modgician Members Area and use the Questions/Suggestions form immediately to advise there is a problem and we’ll investigate.

Old Minecraft Launcher
If you’re running the old Minecraft Launcher (for MC v1.5.2 or earlier) then another potential reason is because you are running a cracked version of Minecraft. Modgician relies on certain files in Minecraft to confirm the version of Minecraft that is running. In cracked versions, these files are normally missing, therefore Modgician is unable to determine which Mod list to download from the server upon login.

This is most likely because the Mod developer has released an update and we are updating our system and testing the Mod to ensure it installs and works properly.

This usually takes anywhere from 10 minutes to 1 hour.

So, close Modgician and re-open it in a few minutes. If the Mod doesn’t re-appear after 1 hour, then use the Support & Feedback tab on the application to contact us.

Generally speaking we ensure that all popular Mods are available for installation through Modgician.

There are a lot of Mods out there, with new ones appearing every day, and we do our best to keep up with the latest Mods that people want. However, sometimes there are Mods we don’t know about or haven’t put into the system yet for one reason or another.

If this is the case and there is a Mod you want to install that hasn’t been added to Modgician, just use the Mod Suggestion form on the Members Home page and we’ll either get it added for you asap or let you know why it hasn’t beed added and when it is likely to be added.

Please be aware that sometimes Mods are not added because they either just don’t work properly or have way too many conflictions with other Mods. We test every Mod before making it available in Modgician to ensure you have as hasslefree an experience as possible.

If you have purchased a premium account or a free trial and want to cancel it, you can do this on the Members Home Page. Make sure you are logged in to the site, then once you are on the Members Home Page, click on the ‘Profile & Account’ tab and scroll down and you will see the cancellation information.

Once you cancel the recurring payment, your account will remain in Premium status until the end of the term that you have paid for (or the end of the free trial) at which point your account status will automatically downgrade to Basic.

If you are sure you want to permanently delete your Modgician account, please send an email to support@modgician.com from the email address that you used to create your account and request that your account be deleted permanently. Please note that if your account status is currently Premium, you will first need to logon to your PayPal account and cancel the recurring payment to us. Once the term of the recurring payment is finished and your account is automatically downgraded to basic, then we can permanently delete your account if you request us to do so.
